Portable and Stationary Asphalt Plant Baghouse Options

CWMF baghouse dust collectors capture airborne dust and help maintain the airflow essential to asphalt plant production. Often called the “lungs” of an asphalt plant, the baghouse filters dust from the exhaust airstream while working alongside upstream dust control systems that retain and return usable dust particles to the drum mixer.
CWMF offers two baghouse technologies: Dust Pilot reverse-flow and Dust-Eater® pulse-jet, with multiple sizes and configurations for portable, relocatable, and stationary asphalt plants.
Reverse Flow vs. Pulse Jet Baghouse Technology
Every asphalt plant has its own unique specifications. That’s why CWMF offers custom baghouse designs and two dust collection technologies: Dust Pilot reverse-flow and Dust-Eater pulse-jet. Each uses a different approach to cleaning dust from filter bags. Choosing the right system depends on plant configuration, airflow requirements, maintenance needs, and existing equipment.
| Factor | Dust Pilot | reverse-flow | Dust-Eater | pulse-jet |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning Method | Reverse-flow mechanism and indexing system | Pulse valves and blowpipes |
| Distinctive Design | No compressor or pulse valves; Geneva wheel indexing | Hose-free valve manifold; accessible diaphragms; bag spacing |
| Configurations | Portable and stationary (verify) | Portable, relocatable, stationary |
| Airflow | 68,000 / 93,000 / 120,000 CFM | 60,000 – 120,000 CFM |
| Best Fit | Higher-capacity asphalt plants prioritizing consistent airflow and reduced maintenance |

Dust Pilot Reverse Flow Baghouse

The Dust Pilot Reverse-Flow Baghouse is engineered for high-capacity asphalt plants, delivering consistent process airflow even under demanding production conditions. Its innovative reverse-flow cleaning system eliminates the need for a compressor or pulse valves. With fewer moving parts, the Dust Pilot reduces maintenance needs, extends filter bag life, and improves return on investment.
Available in portable and stationary configurations, the Dust Pilot features a compact footprint and three airflow capacities: 68,000, 93,000, and 120,000 CFM.
Standard Features:

Exhaust gases/dust enters the baghouse

Exhaust gases/dust flow through distributor panels

Exhaust gases/dust are filtered through the bags.

Clean air exhaust gases enter central plenum.

Clean air exhaust gases enter discharge plenum.

Clean air exhaust gases leave through the exhaust stack.
Dust-Eater® Pulse Jet Baghouse Features

Hose-Free Manifold Design for Easier Maintenance
The Dust-Eater pulse-valve manifold design eliminates connecting hoses, reducing potential airflow leaks and preventing valve freeze-ups on cold operating days. Valve diaphragms are accessible from outside the baghouse, and you can remove jet tubes when needed, simplifying maintenance.
Airflow Management That Reduces Wear
Smooth internal surfaces, sidewall louvers, and a large inlet knockout help reduce airspeed and turbulence, minimizing wear and extending filter bag and component life. Sidewall louvers also prevent bag abrasion and protect the first 10 feet of the bag chamber.
Greater Bag Spacing for More Uniform Filtration
Generous bag spacing lets dust-laden air circulate through the bag matrix, helping interior bags filter as effectively as exterior bags. The extra spacing also reduces pulsed dust buildup on adjacent bags, while increased sidewall clearance promotes even filtration throughout the chamber.
Simplified Bag Installation and Secure Sealing
Integral venturi cages and snap-lock bags simplify installation while providing a secure seal between each bag and the tube sheet.

On our portable baghouse units, our unique false floor design minimizes the reintroduction of fines as the drag slats move them toward the discharge auger.

How to Choose Which Technology is Right for Your Plant
Choosing the right baghouse depends on your plant’s production capacity, airflow requirements, available space, and whether you’re installing new equipment or replacing existing equipment. Portable versus stationary configurations, along with maintenance considerations, can also influence the best solution.
CWMF can help evaluate these requirements and recommend the appropriate baghouse technology, size, and configuration for your operation. Contact us to discuss your production and airflow requirements.
Baghouse Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between reverse-flow and pulse-jet baghouses?
The primary difference is how the filter bags are cleaned. CWMF’s Dust Pilot uses reverse-flow cleaning with an indexing mechanism and doesn’t require a compressor or pulse valves. Dust-Eater uses pulse-jet cleaning to remove accumulated dust from the filter bags. Both technologies maintain effective filtration and airflow during asphalt production.
Are CWMF baghouses available for portable and stationary asphalt plants?
Yes. CWMF offers baghouse configurations for portable and stationary asphalt plants, with relocatable options also available for Dust-Eater. Available sizes and configurations vary by technology.
How do you size a baghouse for an asphalt plant?
Baghouse sizing depends on the airflow required to support plant production, along with operating conditions and equipment configuration. Production capacity, typically measured in tons per hour (TPH), is an important consideration, but proper sizing requires evaluating the plant’s overall airflow requirements. For more assessment information, check out our blog post “How Well Is Your Baghouse Breathing?“
Can CWMF help with a replacement baghouse?
Yes, we do retrofits all the time. CWMF can help evaluate existing equipment, airflow requirements, and installation constraints to identify suitable baghouse options for your asphalt plant. Contact the equipment team to discuss your replacement needs.
